David Chalupnik
Portfolio Manager since 01/17/2020
David oversees all portfolio management activities for Nuveen’s actively managed U.S. equities strategies. He is the lead portfolio manager for several core and value-focused equities strategies and related institutional portfolios. David also manages several Santa Barbara Asset Management Dividend Growth strategies.
Prior to joining the firm in 2002, David served as chief investment officer for Duff & Phelps Investment Management Company. David was also head of the equity investment division of Allstate Insurance Company. He began working in the investment industry in 1984.
David graduated with a B.S. in Commerce and an M.B.A. from DePaul University. He holds the CFA® designation and is a member of the CFA® Institute.
Evan Staples
Portfolio Manager since 01/17/2020
Evan is a portfolio manager and research analyst for Nuveen’s equities team. He manages core and value-focused equities strategies and related institutional portfolios. As a senior research analyst, Evan specializes in the financial sector including banks and large diversified financial companies. Evan also provides additional analytical coverage for the Santa Barbara Asset Management dividend growth strategies.
Prior to joining the firm in 2010, Evan was a senior research associate at RBC Capital Markets where he performed fundamental equities research on regional banks and specialty finance companies. Previously, Evan served as a finance instructor at St. Cloud State University. He began his career in the investment industry in 2005.
Evan graduated with a B.S. in Real Estate Finance and Investing and an M.B.A., with an emphasis on Finance, from St. Cloud State University. He holds the CFA® designation.
David Johnson

David Johnson is the Managing Director and Chief Operations Officer of the Sub-Adviser. Mr. Johnson has served the Sub-Adviser in these roles since its formation in March 2023. Since 2010 he has served as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Global Capital Group, LLC (an introducing broker and financial consultant). Mr. Johnson is also the Managing Member of the General Partner of Global Capital Markets Fund, L.P., a global macro hedge fund, where he utilizes his expertise to assist investors and family offices in creating diversified portfolios.
Mr. Johnson began his career at NASA as a systems engineer on the Space Shuttle program. He later transitioned to Honeywell Space Systems, where he held numerous engineering and management positions for 22 years on the Space Station and Space Shuttle programs. During his tenure, Mr. Johnson contributed to multiple civilian and military satellite projects, including serving as the company’s Site Director at Johnson Space Center for the International Space Station program. He has received several awards and recognition, including Outstanding Engineer from Honeywell, and a Space Shuttle Award & Special Letter of Commendation from NASA. Mr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of South Florida
Karen Bowie

Karen is a portfolio manager of Nuveen’s Small Cap Value and Mid Cap Value strategies and related institutional portfolios. She joined the team managing Small Cap Value in 2005 and she took over primary portfolio management responsibilities for Mid Cap Value in 2012. Prior to her management roles, she was responsible for equity research in the financial sector for the small cap value team.Karen began working in the investment industry and joined the firm in 1984 as an equity portfolio manager and equity research analyst. From 1989 to 1999 she served as an institutional portfolio manager and head of the fixed income group for the Ohio/Kentucky region at PNC Financial, before rejoining the firm in 1999. Karen also worked in equity research and fund management for PNC Financial and has been an adjunct associate professor at the University of Cincinnati, where she taught Finance and Economics.Karen graduated with a B.S.B.A. and an M.B.A. from Xavier University and a J.D. from Salmon P. Chase College of Law. She holds the CFA designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.
